"Old age is no place for sissies."
-Bette Davis
With age comes
wisdom. There is certainly something to be said about learning from
older women. Older women are a wonderful resource of knowledge.
Debra, one of my closest friends is one of the smartest and wisest
people I know. She seems to always have an answer. It is an
unfortunate reality that older people in the
United
States are often ignored. Years
ago, many families lived together with several generations in one
household. Sadly, that is seldom the case anymore.
There is much to be
learned from older women. Consider the following:
An older woman knows
herself well enough to be assured in who she is, what she is, what
she wants and from whom. Few older women give a damn about what
people might think of her and what she is doing.
If a woman over 40
doesn’t want to sit around and watch the game, she doesn’t sit
around whining about it. She finds something that she wants to do
and does it.
Older women almost
never ask a man, “What are you thinking about?” She knows he is
either thinking about the game, food, sex or a combination of all
three.
Older women are
dignified. They seldom have a screaming match with a man in the
middle of an expensive restaurant.
Older women are
generous with praise, often undeserved. They know what it is like to
be unappreciated.
Older women are
forthright and honest.
