There is a new bug going around-a neon
blue firefly is all abuzz. What I am talking about is not an insect.
It is one of the newest cell phones to hit the market. The Firefly
is an awesome new cell phone designed for ease of use by children.
It has no number pad but instead has a button with an icon of mom and dad.
Since there is no keypad, children cannot burn up minutes by calling
everyone they know.
Parents simply program their numbers
in. To make a call, simply push the mom button and then send. The
phone book holds up to 20 numbers. It also has the option of
rejecting calls not in the phone book. The phonebook is
PIN-protected. In addition, it also has a 911 button. (The button
has to be held down for a full 3 seconds and then you have to push
send).
It is rechargeable, has up to 6 hours
of talk time and has dual language capabilities (English and
Spanish).
Very lightweight (2.12 ounces) and compact
(3.46" x 1.75" x
0.79").
It is available through phone stores (with
traditional cell phone contracts), through Target as a prepay
phone,or directly from Firefly Mobile (also prepay).
I purchased this to have an open
communication line when my children are visiting their father. I
only programmed my number in it as this is the “mom phone’ and is
only used when they are with their father. I did not tell my
children the phone number becaue I did not want them giving the
number out to their friends.
I am very pleased with the Firefly. The
simple design and ease of use make this a great phone for single
parent families. It was very easy to teach my children how to use
it.
